Cosmetologists need 14 hours. Estheticians need 10 hours. Nail Technicians need 10 hours. Hair Braiders need 10 hours.

Up to half of the required hours can be completed as a Self Study at your convenience (HOME STUDY).  The other half must be Classroom hours completed live in-person or live virtually. Our live virtual courses are a combination of pre-recorded and live class and must be attended on the day that it is presented.

Yes. You need both. Domestic Violence Awareness is a 1 hour, 1 time requirement. Sexual Harassment is a New requirement and must be taken with every renewal.

No. Our Virtual Classes are presented and monitored live.

Yes. Our virtual classes are hosted live and serve as Classroom hours or "in-person" hours. They are not Self Study hours.

Continuing Education hours are awarded for the hours attended. For example, if you are registered for a 7 hour course but only attend 5 hours, you will receive a certificate for 5 hours.

Change of name CANNOT be completed via this online process. If your name has changed, you must submit a written notice to the Department include documentation of the name change (marriage license, court order, or divorce decree). For a copy of this written notice please click HERE.

RENEW YOUR LICENSE WITH IDFPR
1. You can click this link https://idfpr.illinois.gov/profs/cosmo.html
2. Scroll down and click LICENSE RENEWALS
3. Log In to Your Account or Create an Account on their website portal. Your User ID is generally your license number.
4. Once logged in the IDFPR Online Services Portal, Scroll All the Way Down to RENEWAL/REINSTATEMENT and click Create/Continue a Renewal
5. Answer all questions and confirm personal information. Proceed to checkout and pay the renewal fee.
6. Read instructions from the State of Illinois pertaining to your receipt and when to expect your updated license.
